The new vaccination schedule was published in the DOGC just yesterday (and is therefore effective as of today), featuring several significant changes.
The most important change is that both the pneumococcal and varicella (chickenpox) vaccines are now funded by the public health system. This inclusion will lead to higher vaccination rates compared to when payment was required, thereby allowing the vaccination schedule to be simplified from four doses to three.
Another change is the elimination of the 6-month and 18-month vaccination visits, consolidating them into a single visit at 11 months. This will make room for the new meningococcal B vaccine I mentioned a few months ago.
Finally, the hepatitis A vaccine—previously administered in schools during the sixth year of primary education—will now be given by pediatricians at 12 months and 6 years of age. Children older than this will continue to receive the vaccine at school.
